LANSING –Today, newly-elected State Representative Lamar Lemmons Jr., (D-Detroit) and his son, Lamar Lemmons, III (D-Detroit) were officially sworn in as legislators for the 2nd and 3rd Districts in the Michigan House of Representatives during a ceremony in the House Chamber at 12 p.m. noon on Wednesday, January 12th, 2005.
Clerk of the House Gary L. Randall called on the 110 members of the Michigan House to take the oath of office in a constitutionally mandated event that kicks off the 2005-2006 Legislative Session.
"I am going to work every day to improve the quality of life for Michigan's children, working families and senior citizens," said Lemmons, Jr., who was elected on Nov. 2, 2004.
Among the issues that the father son team plan to address are increasing the minimum wage, strengthening public education, developing more good jobs, fighting against outsourcing, and lowering the cost of health care and prescription drugs.
"It is an honor to once again be able to serve my community," said Lemmons, III. "I am committed to demonstrating in every way possible that state government will be truly focused on listening to the citizens of our district."
Lamar Lemmons, III was first elected to the House of Representative in 1998 and served for two terms.
